ActionWorks® Application Development 101 (AD-101)

Overview

ActionWorks is a rich environment for rapid development and deployment of collaborative business processes across intranets, extranets, and the Internet. This course introduces developers to application development through lectures, presentations, and hands-on exercises. Participants use the ActionWorks suite of tools to develop sample applications.

Pre-Requisites
BPM-101

Objectives

Participants gain hands-on experience with the life cycle of an application in ActionWorks, the web-based work management environment and application server. Specific topics covered include:
  • Review of business process modeling components, including serial workflows, conditional objects, and exception flows, as well as business process roles, and process data.
  • Use of the ActionWorks Process Builder to produce business process models and prototypes of participant's own process models.
  • Use of the Process Builder to develop web-based forms for managing the user session flow of an ActionWorks application. These include business process initiation, status, and response forms. Participants learn how to customize these forms for specific individuals and moments in the business process.
  • When and how to add ActionWorks services to their applications, such as collaboration support, business process timing information, notification services that integrate with electronic mail, and support for distributing work to a group of people through Offices. Participants learn how to modify and add user forms to support these services.
  • How to incorporate business process data in their applications and integrate their ActionWorks applications with external ODBC data sources.
  • Development of views for applications using the Process Builder, such as pending and past due work and application reports saved in external ODBC data sources.
  • Design and customization of the Navigator for application users.
  • Use of Action's scripting language to write simple scripts for applications and debugging.
  • Use of the ActionWorks Process Manager, the work management engine at the core of ActionWorks. In support of application development, participants work with the ActionWorks Process Administrator.
